After 35 years of mounting super-delicate samples in castable mounting compounds, in January I was introduced to the technique you describe. It was shown to me by an electron microscopist struggling with the lack of decent conductive castable mounting materials. In fact he has successfully compression mounted human brain tissue as part of an investigation of the causes of Alzheimers (see Schmid & Raykhtsaum). Since that revelation I have successfully compression mounted gold necklace beads with a wall thickness of .005 inch without distortion.
I'm afraid you will have to fine tune the procedure yourself as it will vary according to the materials you are attempting to compression mount. Keep a constant eye on your pressure gauge.
