The best way to determine these types of inclusions is by SEM/EDS methods - better yet if they use elemental mapping techniques. It is possible that there are both types of inclusions in your sample. Or the Mg content in these inclusions is low and borderline as to whether it is worth including in the report. Did they provide EDS spectra with the report?
I don't think there are optical methods to distinguish between the two types of inclusions. They should both appear black.
