Welcome to
The Rhode Island Chapter

Chairman’s Perspective

Hello everyone. Well, we are almost at the end of another program year here at ASM – Rhode Island and you know what that means right? That means this is the last time I get to nag you to attend one of our meetings until next fall! For those of you who missed it (and I think a few of you did) our fourth annual bus trip tour to visit the New England Air museum followed by a stint at the Smith and Wesson firing range went very well. The weather was unbelievably cooperative with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70’s. You couldn’t have asked for a better day to cut out of work. The museum was actually very impressive with quite a large collection of aircraft to look over. The fully restored B-29 was impressive in its own hanger. Our tour guides were a wealth of knowledge and I was impressed with the history of some these aircraft on exhibit there. The museum is always growing with new aircraft being added (I saw an A10 warthog under wraps in the outdoor display area) so I would highly recommend taking yourself and the family out to visit this jewel of a museum in the wilds of central CT when you have the chance. After the museum tour all us Dirty Harry wannabees headed over to the S&W firing range to spend some quality time blasting out paper silhouettes. A good time was had by all. During our ride home we soothed our aching legs by sampling home brewed beer courtesy of some of our board members. Many thanks to Dick Langhoff for all his hard work in arranging this fun event.

For our last meeting, we are more than honored to have the president of ASM Dr. Diane Chong as our guest speaker. This night is also awards night and voting for the new slate of board members for next year. Please join us to listen to Dr. Chong speak to us about new technologies utilized in Boeing’s 787 program as well as new business models being deployed. I would ask that we turn out in force to listen to her and show our support for ASM international and your local chapter. Also if you have a service award coming to you (5 years, 10, 15 ,25………) please come by to pick it up. You’ll get your picture taken and there will be much applause. Hope to see you there!!
